Observation
towers were built by local woodsmen and guides as early as 1876 and replaced several
times. It was used by the NH Forestry Commission from 1913 or so, and transferred
to the USFS around 1918, when a new tower was built. This was replaced in 1924
by a steel tower, described as 30' high with a non-standard cab. It was abandoned
and destroyed in 1947.
